Second, the video doorbell is an excellent add on to any security or home automation system. “As a dealer that may be selling a system with monitoring and/or maintenance, adding the video doorbell may turn out to be just a few more dollars per month for the consumer. So it’s a good win win for everyone. ”Jeff Neilson, manager, purchasing and planning, AVAD, Scottsdale, Ariz. , says dealers and integrators can close the deal on video doorbells by demonstrating an immediate improvement to a customer’s ability to monitor and control their home, especially by integrating a video doorbell with other connected home devices. “By creating one versatile ecosystem, the homeowner instantly understands the capabilities and they’ll become hooked,” he says. “Similar to the original remote control, being able to answer the door, and potentially unlock it, from the comfort of your couch or office creates an immediate purchase decision. ”This presents one of the tradeoffs mentioned earlier, in that analytics are going to have a much heavier draw on power and will sometimes preclude the use of battery powered cameras. “Video analytics is much harder to do with batteries,” Child says. “Video analytics is pretty process intensive. Vivint said if we would have needed the repeater within 120 days they would have replaced it for free, but we are outside of that timeframe. During that 120 day timeframe Vivint customer service was having us reset the camera. I really like this doorbell camera and how it integrates with my ADT system. Some notes on installation: 1 My mounting plate was slightly different than the one shown here as it had three slots for mounting screws as opposed to the two shown here. I used three screws to mount the plate. 2 I found routing the two existing doorbell wires to the connecting screws a little tricky. There seemed to be a couple ridges in the way of getting the wires into position to align with the two small slots in the rubber plug that environmentally seals off the electrical connections. It took some patience to get things aligned for a good seal. 3 I mounted the plate snugly to my wooden door frame and then followed all the instructions to let the camera update firmware, register it to my system and then snap it into place on the mounting plate. Everything worked perfectly including test ringing the doorbell. About an hour later, I noticed an alert on my ADT website dashboard that my camera battery was low, and the camera had stopped functioning.
